ents/event/4921/</p>\n<p>What can you do with a stack of old academic pos
ters that would otherwise be thrown away? Build a four-metre-wide geodesi
c dome!</p>\n\n<p>Drop in at any point during the day and work with other
students to assemble the structure. No experience of construction\, desi
gn or materials is needed\, and you can stay for as much or as little of
the build as you like.</p>\n\n<p>As the dome takes shape\, you will disco
ver how geodesic domes work\, why they are so strong and efficient\, and
how they connect with materials science\, architecture\, design\, sustain
ability\, ecology and even zoos and community gardens.</p>\n\n<p>The stor
y does not end when the dome is finished. One of the structures will late
r become a mushroom-growing space on campus through the CAPPUCCINO initia
tive\, bringing together two circular projects to transform university wa
ste into something useful\, visible and slightly unexpected.</p>\n\n<p>Th
e activity is open to anyone who enjoys making things\, solving practical
problems or exploring sustainability\, design\, materials and architectu
re. Wear practical clothing and footwear suitable for hands-on work and t
he weather. All materials and equipment will be provided.</p>\n\n<p>The p
roject is supported by the Alumni Impact Fund\, whose team will be there
to capture the build and the finished dome.</p>\n\n<p><em>This activity a
nd event have been made possible thanks to funding from the EPSRC Centre
for Doctoral Training in Topological Design and the EPSRC Centre for Doct
oral Training in Formulation Engineering for Net Zero.</em></p></body></h
