Session 2: Birmingham Present
With a 125 year legacy, what does it mean to study Classics at the University of Birmingham? Our distinguished panel of alumni and Brummie locals will offer their personal perspectives on Classics, the community at Birmingham, and their experience of studying Classics in the West Midlands.
Join us to hear reflections from:
- Natalie Haynes: Born and raised in Birmingham, Natalie is a writer, broadcaster, comedian, and classicist, best known for her reimagining of Greek myths.
- Peter Sommer: Peter studied Ancient History and Archaeology here at Birmingham, building a career as an archaeologist, award winning producer and director, and founder of a multi-award winning archaeology tour company.
- Dr Polly Stoker: Following a PhD in Classics from the University, Polly is a specialist in women's creative responses to classical literature and culture in the twentieth and twenty first centuries.
- Professor Patrick Finglass: Patrick learnt Latin and Greek while at school in Birmingham. Now, he is President of the Bristol branch of the Classical Association, editor of Classical Quarterly, and on the editorial boards for Oxford Classical Texts.
