Abstract

AI tools are enjoying widespread usage in everyday tasks, including in academic research. However, these tools are mostly unregulated, and there are still no concrete guidelines on how to use them properly. Combined with extreme monetisation strategies, this leads to extensive use for the sole purpose of fuelling the attention economy, causing the so-called 'AI-slop'. As a result, human creativity and factual accuracy have taken a hit in recent times and may need to be reclaimed. 

In this talk, I aim to share my experience on using AI tools in my field of research, Quantum Machine Learning. I will break down the research process into stages and address each one separately with some examples. I will also give some tips that, in my experience, have proven to increase their efficiency, while keeping their drawbacks in check.

After the talk, I would like to hold a round-table discussion to compare our experiences, so that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from each others'.

About the speaker

Efstratios received his PhD from the School of Computer Science, working on the mathematical foundations of machine learning. He was then hired as a postdoc teaching fellow until the end of 2026, also doing research in Quantum Machine Learning in collaboration with his colleagues. His current research interests lie at the intersection of probability, information theory, and their applications to data science and machine learning.
